Wonderful Whitehall - Commemoration & Confrontation
Whitehall once a sprawling palace and home of royals is now the home of Government and stretches out between two squares, Trafalgar and Parliament. For centuries it has been witness to protest and celebration and seen the passing of royals, protesters and an unnamed soldier.
We will discover the final insult to a King whose death would send a shock wave across Europe and be remembered centuries and marked by a black smudge. Why in 2012 there was a Mexican wave an a modern day joust on Henry VIII’s tilt yard, and just what are those guards guarding? We wave to a man on a high plinth between two government buildings whose days may be numbered, and embrace an engineer who tackled the Great Stink.
