Phoenix City - following the flames and stepping through the ashes of the City’s famous fire(s)

The oldest part of London the City is no stranger to fire, the first Roman settlement was burnt to the ground by an avenging queen before it rose to become a major trading centre.

We will discover how the City of London fell to the infernos of 1666 and 1940 before rising phoenix like from the ashes to see a new day.

How devastation revealed our past. How the city transformed from its dark and sooty post 1940’s to the brutalist architecture of post war Britain, then moved onto the temples of glass and steel today which nudge against the remains of centuries of stone and brick.
